The Week in Review – 8/31

Welcome back to the Nave-Po Fantasy Football website. I look forward to another season of reporting the things we already knew. This season I’m going to mess around with a few ideas, and this post will be the first of a hopefully weekly installment assessing the state of the league.

For the third season in a row, the Nave-Po Fantasy Football League convened for the live draft. Unlike the first two drafts, which were held in Navesink, this draft took place at Gargiulo’s in Coney Island. All fourteen teams were represented, and some teams had multiple representatives. The food included a delicious spread of clams, chicken, calamari, pasta, and more. By all accounts the food and service were top notch.

Matty O makes the first move of the season, placing Steelers RB, and known terrorist sympathiser, Rashard Mendenhall on the Dimaria-Rice Injured Reserve.

The controversial rule, in it’s second season of action, was criticized at the draft by a faction of managers. That criticism spilled over to Mendenhall’s designation. “That rule is for children,” observed Kyle. “Can’t believe it survived the vote… horrible,” reacted Greg. Well in the democracy that is Nave-Po, the rule exists, so get used to it.

Brian and Matty G pulled the trigger on the first trade of the season. Layin’ Woodson acquired Toby Gerhart, in exchange for Santonio Holmes. The preseason dealing comes as somewhat of a surprise, in a league that traditionally has not had many trades. Perhaps it will mark a new trend of dealing in 2012. It remains to be seen if either of these players will start for their respective teams, but the trade does allow Brian to choose from the Vikings full backfield, and bolsters the WR position for Matt.
